Embracing vs. Rejecting Government
I recently visited The Center for Cross Cultural Learning where two guest speakers spoke with extremely opposing viewpoints. I . am not sure if this was the intention of the center but these speakers stood in stark contrast in my mind. The first speaker was the director of the documentary “Death Over Humiliation”. This documentary focuses on the 2016 Rif Region Uprisings. While I have been studying the tendencies of the Moroccan government, this documentary really showed in full light what repression in this country means. I am attaching a link to this documentary below this text. Almost alarmingly the next speaker was a government official working in the environmental sustainability department and he presented on Morocco’s climate change policy, commitments, and financing. In short it was interesting to see this common battle play out in real time. The battle between a disgruntled and oppressed citizen risking it all to speak out against their regime and a governmental official working on issues that only the government has the power to address, in this case climate change. It begs the question, how can we find a common middle ground between embracing or rejecting government.
